Funeral services for Charles “Papaw” Ratliff Sr., age 83, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Netherton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tony King officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Friday evening at Netherton Funeral Home. He passed away Tuesday evening at his residence.

Charles was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Brownwood, the son of the late Lee and Effie (Richardson) Ratliff. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was self employed as a carpenter. Charles married Mary Barbour on June 23, 1948, in Robert Lee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Charles “Chuck” Ratliff of Plano and William H. “Bill” Ratliff of Hawaii; five daughters, Nancy Jones of Brownwood, Gloria Cornelius of Brownwood, Cheryl Bourland of Grosvenor, Colleen Sparks of Grosvenor and Mary Daniel of Leander; 17 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
