L.L. "Shorty" Lewis, age 98, of Rising Star, left this earth on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, to fish the lakes and streams of Heaven.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Union Center Baptist Church with Red Chamberlin officiating assisted by Jerry Eckhart. Burial will follow in the Lewis Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m. today at the Higginbotham Chapel in Rising Star.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1913, to Cleve and Effie (Woodruff) Lewis in Nolan County, Texas. He was married to Theresa Hughes in Brownwood on Feb. 12, 1943. "Shorty" as he was known, was a man of many talents. He was a farmer, carpenter, trucker and a minister. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Theresa of Rising Star; two sons, Kermit Lewis and wife Francis of Midland, Randy Lewis of Rising Star; two daughters, Kay Prosser and husband Jerry of Arlington; Sharon Bond and husband Ron of Cross Plains; 10 grandchildren, Perry Lewis, Kim Foster, Tammy Shelton, Jason Prosser, Stephanie Prosser, Dee Dee Lewis, Bubba Lewis, Matthew Mattison, Rusty Bond and Ricky Bond; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
