Funeral services for J. R. Davis, 92, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Davis-Morris Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Green officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007.

He was born June 8, 1915 in Holder to John R. and Stella Mae Smith Davis. He was a Methodist and a lifelong resident of Brownwood. He worked with the Car Department of the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1937, he was married to Aurilea Stubblefield. He was a wood worker in spare time making some his own furniture. He was always looking for ways to help his friends, often driving for them. He greatly enjoyed reading his Bible.

Survivors include his wife, Aurilea Davis; daughter, Nancy Wyche and friend Jim Watson of Brownwood; sons, Donald Davis and wife Lucille of Brownwood and Charles Davis of Brownwood; grandchildren, Ruth Ann Shields, James Robert Davis, Nancy Elaine Walker and Tonia Darlene Burger; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella Davis.
