Graveside services for John Clyde “Mac” Mattix, 91, of Thrifty, will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2007 at Bangs Cemetery with Pastor Don Draper officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. this afternoon at the funeral home.

He passed away Friday afternoon, July 20, 2007, at a local nursing home.

A longtime resident of Thrifty, Mac was born on Dec. 25, 1915 to John Alfred and Georgia Lee Eudaly Mattix. He married Nell Louise Lipps on March 7, 1933 in Decatur. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 16th Armored Division. He was a custom farmer and a member of the Lake Brownwood Lions Club.

Mac is survived by his daughter, Billie Walker of Brownwood; grandson, Kenny Sikes of Thrifty; granddaughter, Debbie (Mrs. Tony) Krischke of Brownwood; three great-grandsons, John and Tonya Krischke of Brownwood, Matt and Leslie Krischke of Abilene and Joshua Sikes of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one great-granddaughter, Hannah and Blake Starks of Abilene; three great-great-granddaughters; sisters-in-law Loretta Mattix of Thrifty and La Vern and Clyde Hesser of Parker; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He is also survived by his adopted family, The Lake Brownwood Lions Club members. He loved them all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nell; and three brothers, Aubrey, Eddie and Sam Mattix.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Lake Brownwood Lions Club.
