BALLINGER – Funeral services for Thomas Benton Owens Jr., 90, of Early will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Lange Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Old Runnels Cemetery near Ballinger. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Ballinger to Thomas Benton and Josephine Annie (Wartenbach) Owens. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was employed with the Texas Highway Department and with the railroad as an equipment operator.
Survivors include his son, Thomas C. Owens and wife Ann of Early; daughter, Susie Moore and husband Dan of Brownwood; step-daughters, Sharon Beaver of Ballinger, Loretta Patton of Hillsboro; step-son, James Glenn of Hillsboro; sister, Hilda McDonald of Midland; brothers, Jerry Owens and wife Kathy of Tahoka, Damon Owens and wife Berta and Bill Owens and wife Ruby all of Havard, Mont.; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Lillie Jane Taylor; brothers, Clinton, Milton Ray, Alton, Charles, Fritz Ervin, Henry, and Guy; and sister, Lottie Harris.
