NEWBURG — Graveside services for Jarrett Newton ‘Newt’ Hicks, 82, of Comanche will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Newbury Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Meinecke officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Comanche Funeral Home. Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at East Side Baptist Church.
He died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Western Hills Healthcare Residence in Comanche.
He was born June 4, 1925, in Haskell County to James Elmer Hicks and Effie Lee (Layman) Hicks. He owned and operated Hasse Grocery Store in Hasse. He was a Baptist. He was married to Oleta Hentry on May 31, 1947, in Dublin.
Survivors include his wife, Oleta Gentry Hicks of Comanche; sons, Ronald David Hicks and wife Carmen of Weslaco, and James Dean Hicks and Cindy of Comanche; daughters, Mary Anne Ellsworth and husband Paul of Stephenville, and Leslie Hicks Hitt and husband Wayne of Richardson; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, John D. Hicks of Comanche and Billy Jack Hicks of New Mexico; sisters, Effie Lee Farley of Bastrop, Elmer Ree Elliott of Stephenville, Patsy Auvenshine of Comanche, Dee Hielman of Omaha, Neb., and Gene Silva of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Wendy Davis; a grandson, Charles Richard Payne Jr.; two sisters; and three brothers.
