Funeral services will for John Wayne Gober Sr., age 68, of Brownwood be held at 2 p.m. today at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Slaymaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8.

    John Wayne Gober Sr., age 68, of Brownwood, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 7, 2010, at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

    He was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Brownwood, the son of the late John Elijah and Flossie Qualls Gober. He was of the Pentecostal faith and had lived in the Brownwood area all of his life. He was married to Linda Horton at Brady, Texas, on March 27, 1975. Together they owned Ace Tree Service of Browwood.

    John was someone who was known to help many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

    He is survived by his wife, Linda Gober of Brownwood; four sons, Royce Daniel Gober, Robert Hamill, and Jeffrey Shane Hamill all of Brownwood and Kenneth Hamill of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin Qualls of Brownwood, John Gober of San Antonio, Gary Gober of Kerrville, and Clayton Gober of Kerrville; a sister, Juanell Carlisle of Brownwood; and a host of nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brenda Gober; two sons, Charles Wayne Gober and Johnny Gober; a grandson, Chris Gober; and a sister, Leona Reynolds.
