W. A. “Toodle” Middleton, age 83, of Brownwood passed away Nov. 27, 2007, at a local nursing home.

A lifetime resident of Brown County, he was born Jan. 30, 1924, to Joe and Maybelle Middleton in the Indian Creek community. He married Betty Nelson in the Indian Creek Parsonage on May 1, 1943.

Toodle, a man who wore many hats, started his career as a policeman for Brownwood, and then became a fireman, a deputy sheriff, the Chief of Police from 1956 - 1960, then the Parks and Recreation Director, and wound up his career as the sales manager for Jimmy Campbell Motor Company. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, and a member of the Lions Club, and in the early 1950s he organized Little League Baseball in Brownwood.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty of Brownwood; two sons, Ronnie Middleton and wife Maggie of Eldorado, and Dale Middleton and wife Troi of San Angelo; and a daughter, Frankie Sandlin and husband Woody of Sheridan, Wyo.; six granddaughters, Ronda Newberry and husband Tim of Tuscola, Marci Tutt and husband Kevin of Tuscola, Tori McCrea and husband Eric of Salida, Colorado, Shianne Collier and husband Chad of San Angelo, Holly Riley and husband Greg of Billings Mont., and Michelle Sandlin of Sheridan, Wyo.; two grandsons, Shy Lowe Middleton and wife Farrah of San Angelo, and Lonnie Middleton of San Angelo; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Anita Middleton and Bobbie Allen; and a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Toodle was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Raymond Middle-ton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Hetzel and Dr. Gary Torian officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
