Oreston Eugene Martin, better known as Lefty or O.E., was born in Millsap, Texas, on March 18, 1917, to John Edward and Ottie Hines Martin. He grew up in the Mineral Wells/ Garner area.

In 1945, he married the love of his life, Maxine Grubbs, for which they were married 62 years. In the early 50s he moved to Midland, Texas, where he worked for 32 years for the Texas State Health Department, retiring in 1977. After retiring, he moved to Stephenville, Texas, and started a farm. In 2001, he sold the farm and moved to Mineral Wells, Texas, to be closer to his family.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Pophin officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery near Weatherford. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel.

O.E. is survived by his two daughters and their husbands: Wilma Jean and Douglas Babb of Fort Worth, Texas, and Carolyn and Jerry Key of Garner, Texas; three grandchildren: Debbie and Jim Stevenson of Fort Worth, Texas, Thad Key of Garner, Texas, and Todd Key of Weatherford, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Whitney Key of Garner, Texas, Shelby and Cooper Key of Weatherford, Texas; one sister, Katherine Beauchamp of Midland, Texas; a chosen son and his wife, Mike and Stephanie Bryson of Bakersfield, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews; and a host of friends.

He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle and papa, and will be missed by many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Maxine Martin; two sisters, Margaret Gorden and Tweetie Moore; and two brothers, Orville Newberry and Lyndon Martin.
