Funeral services for Durward Williford, 87, of Brownwood are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Heartland Funeral Home Comanche, Texas, with Ross Ellis, Richard Ivy and Don Williford officiating. Burial will be at Mercer Gap-Caffey Cemetery.
Mr. Williford passed away June 18, 2008, in Abilene, Texas. He was born July 7, 1920, in Comanche, Texas, to Jess Williford and Una Huggins Williford. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in South Africa and England during World War II. He was married to Nettie Boynton on Oct. 14, 1945, in Comanche, Texas. They moved to Odessa, Texas, in 1945 living there for 45 years, where they were members and he was a Deacon at Belmont Baptist Church. Retiring from Exxon after 38 years, he and Nettie returned to Comanche to ranch and enjoy the home place. Mr. Williford was a member of First Baptist Church of Comanche, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and sister, Frances Fritts, and by his brother, Jess Williford Jr.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Tate and husband James Tate Jr. of Jacksonville, Texas; a son, Vic Williford and wife Deb of Springtown, Texas; seven grandchildren, Charles Williford, Sarah Ceciel, Debra Tate, Rachel Glidewell, Shelley Williford and Sheri Hallmark and Taylor Wells; six great-grandchildren, Megan and Kendra Ceciel, Kendel Glidewell, Daniel Williford, Tyler and Taylor Hallmark; three sisters Udell Akin and husband Jim Akin of Temple, Neva Crumley and husband Cliff of San Antonio and Ann Ellis of Comanche; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Williford, of Comanche.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, Texas.
