BENBROOK – Funeral services for Bertha Bernice Cantwell, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. today, at Westworth Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park.
Bernice Cantwell passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, in Fort Worth. Bernice Cantwell was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Comanche, to James and Bertha Rushing. On Aug. 7, 1942, after a six-month courtship she was married to Otwell Cantwell. They were separated by his death on their 60th wedding anniversary. She was baptized into the Lord’s church at the age of 13 and was a faithful member for over 70 years. Bernice was a devoted and loving wife, mother and mam-ma. She lived her life staying strong in difficult times and was always thankful for blessings that came her way. Her family members were her precious assets, not silver or gold. She served others with humility and love, not wanting attention on herself. Bernice was a beautiful quilter, a wonderful cook and she loved nurturing her flowers and plants. The legacy of her life will be carried on through her family and by all those who dearly loved her. Her absence will leave a void in the lives of her family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Gene Cantwell and wife Norma; daughter, Belva Swanner; grandson, Slade Swanner and wife, Lisa; granddaughter, Shelley Moore and husband, Matthew; great-grandsons, Stratton Swanner and wife, Diana, Charlie Moore, Jake Moore, Clayton Moore and Mason Swanner; great-granddaughters, Abigail Moore and Emerson Swanner; son-in-law, Daniel Alfrey; sisters, Elouise May, Pearl Bobo and husband, Cullen, Ima Jean Turner and Patricia Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
