Bobbie Gaines departed this life on Dec. 9, 2009, in Carrollton, Texas, at the age of 76, after a courageous battle against ovarian cancer. She was born on July 6, 1933, in Coleman, Texas, the daughter of Obie and Ruby Gilbert. Both parents preceded her in death, along with two brothers, Frank Gilbert and Louis Gilbert; and three sisters, Linnie Gilbert, Bessie Brown and Janet Gilbert.

    She attended public schools in Coleman, Texas, graduating from Humphrey High School. Bobbie and her beloved husband of 54 years, Emmitt Gaines, were married in Coleman, Texas, and raised their two daughters in Brownwood, Texas. While caring for her family, she graduated from nursing school and began a lifelong career in nursing. A retired nurse with the Texas Youth Commission, Bobbie devoted herself to her family, church and community.

    Bobbie is survived by her husband, two daughters, Melody (Robert) Rockwell, of Lewisville, Texas, and Madeline (Elray) Evans, of Abilene, Texas; one granddaughter, Ashley Evans of Abilene, Texas; one sister, Mary Gilbert of Coleman, Texas; two brothers, Walter (Ida) Gilbert, of Humble, Texas, and Larry (Carolyn) Gilbert, of Midland, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Juanita McArthur of Brownwood, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Lee Chapel AME Church, 913 Beaver St., Brownwood, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Kirk Mortuary, Coleman, Texas.
