Atha Audrey ‘Sis’ Allen Green, 82, of Novice, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Coleman County Medical Center in Coleman.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ferris Akins officiating. Burial will followed in the Rough Creek Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Atha Audrey Allen on Oct. 6, 1928, in Denton Valley, Callahan County, Texas, a daughter of Ralph Allen and Jeffie Ham Allen. She lived in Callahan County until the age of 7 when her family moved to Bellflower, Calif., where they lived until 1941. On Jan. 1, 1942, the family moved to Novice where Audrey graduated from Novice High School in 1946. She graduated from Beauty College and owned and operated Broadway Beauty Shop in Coleman for several years. On May 28, 1949, she was married to Billy R. Green in Novice. She later worked as a Park Ranger at Lake Brownwood State Park and Mineral Wells State Park. She also worked at Dry Manufacturing in Winters and Brownwood Manufacturing. She retired in 1987 to Novice.
Audrey was raised Baptist and was an active member of the Baptist Church until joining with the First United Methodist Church in Novice several years ago. She served for a number of years as the secretary/treasurer of the Rough Creek Cemetery Association.
She is survived by her three children, Bobby Green of Novice, James Green and wife Debra of Brownwood and Amy Holmquest and husband Terry of Novice; two brothers, Milton Allen and wife Sally of Coleman, D. G. Allen and wife Mary of Novice; two sisters, Nell Walthall and husband John of White Chapel, Doris Duke of Novice; five grandchildren, Eric Green and wife Ada of Brownwood, Brianna McCloud and husband LaRon of Brownwood, Audrey Megan Holmquest of San Angelo, Sarah Holmquest of Novice and Lance Holmquest of Novice; one great-grandson, Brennan Lee-James McCloud; two aunts, Faye Hampton of Escondido, California and Madie Phillips of Hawley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
