J.W. Nickerson, age 63, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Cross Country Health Care Center. Funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 11, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddy Hayes officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today at Brownwood Funeral Home and Cremations, located at 2512 Belle Plain. The family will be present from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
J.W. was born May 8, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas, to Charlie and Leola Green Nickerson. He attended public schools in Lubock. He moved to Brownwood with his family in 1963. He was a very gifted mechanic who loved his work. He was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his seven brothers, Marshall Nickerson and wife Anna of Little Rock, Ark., Dan Lee Nickerson and wife Raycel, and Ronnie Nickerson all of Brownwood, Raymond Nickerson and wife Lorie of Lubbock, Troy Nickerson, Lloyd Nickerson and wife Cynthia of Dallas, and Bill Nickerson of Brownwood; three sisters, Josie Osburne and husband Robert of Dallas, Linda Nickerson of Abilene, and Mary Ann Nickerson of Mesquite; many nieces and nephews, and cousins; and many friends. He is also survived by a special friend and caretaker Dorothy Robinson.
He was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers, and one sister.
