Ross Ray Gerking passed away Monday morning in his home at 7:03 a.m. He was born in Yakima, Wash., on May 25, 1937. His adoptive parents were Mabel and Elmer Gerking. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He served as a church elder to the Cross Timbers Seventh Day Adventist Church. He drove for Lawrence’s Farm and Ranch for many years. He was very active in the community by serving as mayor of Cross Plains from 1990 to 1992, in Kiwanis from 1988 to 1995, in Project Pride and his local Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joy Mae Gerking; five daughters, Rochell Gerking of Woodland, Calif., Robyn Phillips of Jamestown, N.D., Arlene Liles of Fresno, Calif., Lorie Sims of Fresno, Calif., and Lisa Gardner of Rising Star; four sons, Ron Gerking of Groveland, Calif., Paul Sims of South Carolina, Chris Sims of Fresno, Calif., and Eric Sims of Cross Plains. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and too many friends to mention.

He will be cremated under the direction of Heartland Funeral and Cremation of Early and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Cross Timbers Seventh Day Adventist Church.
