Evelyn McDaniel Locke, age 91, affectionately known as Mimi, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, at Central United Methodist Church in Brownwood, with interment following in Wallace Creek Cemetery in San Saba County. Davis-Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn was born on March 13, 1918, in San Saba County, Texas, to Alvie and Addie McDaniel. She graduated from San Saba High School and Daniel Baker College. After graduating college she taught school in May, Texas, before marrying Bruce M. Locke in April of 1941. She traveled with her husband and family throughout Europe and the Far East, later returning to Brownwood and working for PF&E Oil Company for many years.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Robert S. Locke and wife Charlotte of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Suzanne Prosise and husband James of Brownwood; four granddaughters, Kimberly Laverett and husband David of Longmont, Colo., Timi Abney and husband Jamie of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kristi Terbush and husband Jason of Abilene, Madison Locke of Clarkville, Tenn., and Dixie Flores of College Station, Texas; great-grandchildren, Carly, Sierra, and Zak Leverett of Longmont, Colo., Conor and Evelyn Moore and Tylet Abney of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Ethan and Lauren Terbush of Abilene; her very special nieces, Jeannette McDaniel Chesser and Sharon McDaniel Duncan of Brownwood; and many great-great-nieces and nephews; along with a great-great-great-niece.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Alvie and Addie McDaniel, her sister Alvis Jaschke; and four brothers, Sherman McDaniel, Gene McDaniel, Jack McDaniel and Carl McDaniel.
