Funeral services for Jerry “Dale” Purcell (Pop), age 70, of Bangs, will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Bangs First Baptist Church with Lee Evans and Shannon Bond officiating. Interment is to follow in Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Purcell passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Dale was born May 4, 1939, in Brownwood to William Purcell and Lennie (Horton) Purcell. He was married to Freda Havner on Dec. 24, 1959, and they were married for 49 and a half years. He had retired from 3M in 2001 where he had been employed in maintenance.

Dale is survived by his wife, Freda Purcell of Bangs; a son, Ronnie Purcell and wife Beckie, of Bangs; daughter-in-law, Michelle Bishop of Brownwood; two grandsons, Joshua and Benjamin Purcell of Bangs; and two granddaughters, Shronda and Skylar Purcell of Brownwood; a brother Garry Purcell and wife Anita of Bangs; sister, Ethel Hill of Brownwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, William Lee Purcell in 1960, and Jerry Lee Purcell in 1998; two brothers, Billy Wayne Purcell, and Jimmy Purcell; and a sister, Wanda Jean Purcell.
