Johnny Ray Lancaster Sr. went home to be with our loving Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the age of 52.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, in Bangs Cemetery with the Rev. Ruben Packard officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home.

Johnny Ray Lancaster was born on Oct. 27, 1956, in Ballinger, Texas. He was raised and attended school in Ballinger and San Angelo, and on Jan. 22, 1975, he was married to his best friend and the love of his life, Barbara Williams.

Mr. Lancaster worked in the oil field industry and construction for most of his life. He loved mowing and took great pride in tending his yard. His greatest passion was getting together with family to barbecue and he had a soft spot in his heart for kids. When there were children around, he was always out in the yard laughing and playing with them.

He leaves behind his best friend and love of his life, Barbara Lancaster of Brown County; four children, John Lancaster Jr. and wife, Carrie, of Brownwood, Shannon Stephens and husband, Jason, of Grosvenor, Bobby Gideon and fiancée, Cheyenne, of Brooksmith, Debbie Towe and husband, David, of Winters; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He is also survived by his parents, Leroy and Mary Tinney of San Angelo; four brothers, Larry Tinney and wife, Vicki, of San Angelo, James Tinney and wife, Melissa, of New Mexico, Ricky Tinney and wife, Martha, of Garland, Archie Lancaster and wife, Liz, of Branson, Texas; sisters, Sereda Wance and husband, Robert, of Galveston, Shirley Lancaster and husband, Donald, of Luling, Missy Nichols and husband, Greg, of Merkel; two brothers-in-laws, Bill Caswell and wife, Irene, of Bangs and Gerald Williams and wife, Lisa, of Bangs; sister-in-law, Betty Seals and husband, Jim, of Bangs; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Travis Tinney; and numerous loved ones.
