Virginia “Ginga” Perez, age 43, of Brownwood, passed away Dec. 25, 2009, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. She was born Jan. 13, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, to Alfonzo and Margaret Hernandez. She attended Sunset High School in Dallas and played in the band before moving to Brownwood and graduating from Brownwood High School. While in high school in Dallas, she volunteered as a Candy Striper at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas. Prior to her illness, she worked in the Emergency Room at Brownwood Regional Medical Center for several years.

She is survived by her three sons, Andrew Perez and wife Diane of San Angelo, Abel Perez and wife Sabrina of Brownwood, and Adam Perez of Brownwood; her parents, Alfonzo and Margaret Hernandez of Brownwood; four brothers, Eddie Martinez and wife Theresa of Dallas, Ernest Martinez of Dallas, Ruben Martinez and wife Julia of Brownwood, and Arthur Martinez of Brownwood; and a sister, Debra Martinez of Dallas.

She is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Blaylock Funeral Home, 1914 Indian Creek Rd., Brownwood, Texas.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to be made the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
