Bennie J. Rudd Sr., age 72, of Brownwood died Tuesday at a local nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m.. Friday, May 11, 2007, at the Midtown Baptist Church with Brother Joey Willborn officiating. His body was cremated under the direction of Heartland Cremation Services of Early.

He was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Wilson, Texas, the son of the late Elsie and Bertie Moore Rudd. He married Johnnie Williams at Slaton on Dec. 7, 1964. He served in the Korean War serving both in the U. S. Navy and U. S. Army. He had been a resident of Lake Brownwood since 1982, was a Baptist and had worked as an electrician for many years.

He is survived by his former wife and friend, Johnnie Rudd of Lake Brownwood; his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Cindy Rudd of Brownwood; his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Phelps of Brownwood and her husband Brad; four grandsons, Colton, Joseph, Matthew, and Chase; two brothers, Deal Rudd of Slaton and Bobby Mack Rudd of the Dominican Republic; and one sister, Delene Perry of New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles and an infant brother.

Memorials are requested to be made to the American Diabetes Association.
