Funeral services for William Bryan “Bill” Donahoo, 76, of Bangs, will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Washburn and Terry Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Bill died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 in Abilene Regional Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 4, 1932, to Wilmer L. and Minnie (Gober) Donahoo. Bill graduated high school from Scranton in 1950. On his 18th birthday, Bill went to Abilene to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He served four years in the Corps before returning to Central Texas.
On Sept. 12, 1955, he married Winona Hallmark in Richland Springs.
Bill served the citizens of Brownwood and Brown County for a total of 38 years in law enforcement. He served as chief of police for the City of Brownwood for nine years and as Brown County Sheriff for 12 years. In retirement, Bill worked part-time for Davis-Morris Funeral Home for a number of years. He was a member of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ. Bill was a proud member of the Democratic party.
Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Winona Donahoo of Bangs; three children, Nona Donahoo of Bangs, Trish Simmons and husband Terry of Rising Star, and Bill Donahoo of Brownwood; 10 grandchildren, K. T. Turney and wife Kyndall of Sweetwater, Joseph Simmons and wife Tara, Seth Simmons, Kenneth Simmons, Kasey Simmons, Corey Simmons, Sadie Simmons, Moses Simmons, all of Rising Star, Meghann Donahoo of Abilene, and Tresta Donahoo of Early; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Wendell Donahoo and wife Margie of Lubbock; a sister, Vida Mae Churchwell of Brownwood; and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Jane Donahoo of San Angelo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Questie Turney; and a brother, James Ray Donahoo.
The family requests memorials be made to Good Samaritan Ministries or to Cherokee Home for Children.
