Graveside services with Masonic Rites for S.H. “Jake” Scott, age 92, of Brownwood, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Eastlawn Memorial Park with Brother Tony King officiating. Netherton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Netherton Funeral Home.

Mr. Scott passed away Friday morning, July 25, 2008, at a local nursing home.

Samuel Hayes Scott was born at 7 a.m., Feb. 18, 1916, to John Hugh Scott and Matilda Guinn Scott in Travis, Falls County, Texas. He was married to Bettie Marie Woodard on July 8, 1943, at the First Methodist Church in Brownsville, Texas by the Rev. Kermit Gibbons.

Jake was a truck driver with a wholesale meat route. Before going into the Army, he worked at the First National Bank. He went into service March 18, 1941, at Fort Sam Houston and was discharged Dec. 15, 1944. While in the Army, he was a tech sergeant and earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Jake was also a member of the Brownwood Masonic Lodge 279 for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Scott, of Brownwood; sons, John Woodard Scott of Batesville, Ark., Jack Allan Scott of Brownwood and Hugh David Scott of Brownwood; grandchildren, Chad and Michelle Scott, Chris and Jennifer Scott, John and Jeane Scott, Carrie and Paul Aggarwal, Hayli Scott and Tiffany and John Price; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Chase, Ty, Shelby and Lahney Scott, Zachary and Jared Fulton, Jake Allen and Tanner Cox, Dylan and Karly Kim Person, and Luke, Allison, Sarah, and Emma Aggarwal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Scott; brothers, John Hugh Scott Jr., and Ralph Scott; sisters, Roberta Scott House and Mildred Braun; son, Robert Hayes (Bob) Scott; daughter-in-law, Kim Bennett Scott and granddaughter, Marri Joan Scott Fulton.
