BRENHAM — Funeral services for James Neal Thomason, 87, of Brenham, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Brenham Church of Christ with Anthony Applegate officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel.
He died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 28, 1920, in Brownwood to Arthur Neal and Laura Leona Griffin Thomason. In 1947, he was married to Marilyn Maddox.
He flew 65 combat missions in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He played one year for the Detroit Lions before returning to Brownwood to start his accounting career.
He was named to the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame in 1972, the Texas High School Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Maddox Thomason; his daughters, Marilyn Routt Thomason, Rosanna Routt and Rudy Sena, Major (Ret) Elizabeth King and Edward Vestal, and Meg Thomason and Jeff Janner; his brother, John Arthur Thomason of Brownwood; a sister, Juanita Leona Thomason Roach of Hamilton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janeal Thomason Brandt; a sister, Ruth Florey; and a great-grandson, Jacob Randall Jackson.
