Ruby Mae “Grandma Ruby” Isbell, age 86, of Brownwood died Friday morning, June 6, 2008, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 9, at the First Baptist Church of Lake Brownwood with Dr. Gene Wolfenbarger, the Rev. Bobby Isbell, the Rev. Art Switzer, and the Rev. Mike Switzer officiating. Burial will follow at the Atwell Cemetery near Cross Plains. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Haskell County, Texas, the daughter of Joe and Willie Davis Scheets. She was raised in Haskell County and graduated from Paint Creek High School. She was married to Lee Roy Isbell on Feb. 15, 1941, at Stamford, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1990. She lived in Haskell County most of her life, moving to Brownwood in 2000. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Brownwood.

She was a homemaker and loved to quilt and play the piano. She loved her family and spending time with them. She also worked at a foster grandparent at Northwest Elementary.

She is survived by five sons, Kenneth Isbell and wife Penny of Cedar Hill, Texas, James Isbell and wife Angelia of Grand Prairie, Texas, Roy Isbell of Burnet, Texas, Jerry Isbell and wife Karen of Watauga, Texas, and the Rev. Bobby Isbell and wife Nancy of Bertram, Texas; two daughters, Sandra Sanders and husband Jacky of Aledo and Cynthia Clark and husband Tommy of Brownwood; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant brother, Joseph Loanzo Scheets Jr. Also preceding her in death were a grandson, Cody Sanders, and two great-grandsons, Talon James and Kyle Wilson Jr.
