COLEMAN — Funeral services for Billie Maurine Mercer, 85, of Coleman will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Stanislaw and the Rev. Jeff Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Coleman City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Henderson Funeral Home.

She died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at her home.

She was born July 20, 1924, in Dallas, to William Edwin and Ruby Maurine Norman Stepp. On June 5, 1954, she was married to David Law Mercer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as church Sunday school secretary and she was a member of Dr. Reynold’s Spiritual Recovery Class. She taught school in Mozelle then Coleman ISD until retirement in 1992. She was a newspaper correspondent for Chronicle and Democrat Voice, Abilene Reporter News, and KSTA and published Billie Says, Blog.

Survivors include three nephews, Mac and wife Marion Mercer of Port St Lucie, Fla., Tim and wife Lenora Mercer of Van Court, and Ray and wife Belliene Mercer of College Station; and niece, Dixie Mercer of Nacogdoches.
