James W. J.W. Newton, age 84, of Weatherford, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at his residence.

Mr. Newton was born April 19, 1925, in Cross Cut, Texas, the son of Lewis and Ina Chambers Newton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran and a farm and ranch real estate appraiser. J.W. loved hunting, he was a proud Texas Aggie and loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Madeline Johnson Newton of Weatherford; sons, James B. Newton, M.D. and wife Barbara of Weatherford, and Grady Newton and wife Kim of Salado; daughter, Camille Newton Glasshof and husband Mark of Oklahoma City; sisters, Imogene Haun and Anita Lane; brother, Weldon Newton; granddaughters, Julie Newton Meyer and husband Jeff, Lauren Newton Glenn and husband, Chris; grandsons, Jay Newton and wife Julie and Nicholas Newton and his wife Alex; great- grandchildren, Andrew Meyer, Ava Meyer, Madison Glenn, Bailey Newton, Blake Newton, Grace Newton and Jett Newton.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Cross Cut Cemetery with graveside services at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, in Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
