Buddy D. Wells, age 62, of Blanket died Wednesday evening at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brian Hall officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Salt Creek Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 30, 1945, in Waxahachie, Texas, the son of Walter B. and Lila Faver Wells. Following graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He received several medals, one of which was the bronze star. He was married to Sandra James at Paris, Texas, on March 14, 1998. He worked as a foreman for TXU for several years. He had been a resident of Blanket since 2001 moving from Paris. He was a member of Haven of Hope church. He had recently been hired as a jailer with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Wells of Blanket; five children, Melissa Ann Poe of Murphy, Texas, Trisha Lynn Wright and husband Kenneth of Paris, Texas, Brian James of Paris, Becky Wells of Oklahoma, and Jeff Wells and wife Sarah of Pampa; and eight grandchildren, Corey Hearne, Cameron Poe, Madison Poe, Dalton Nelson, Erica Wells, Casey Wells and Tylah Wells. A sister, Elenor, and two brothers, Bobby and Jimmy, also survive.
