A Celebration of Life service for Carol Murray Wittig, age 51, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Union Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mary D. D’Alessio officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. today at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

On Sunday, June 28, 2009, Carol relinquished her long standing battle with cancer.

Carol was born to Wes and Nell Murray in Longview, Texas, on Dec. 13, 1957. She was raised there with three younger brothers. She was married to Robert Wittig in 1975. Carol and Robert lost their first child, Cheri Angela shortly after she was born, but in 1986, Carol gave birth to Ryan, a special child who required a little extra.

In 1988, Carol, Robert and Ryan moved to Brownwood and opened Wittig Jewelers, which they operated for 21 years. She considered Brownwood her home and had a soft spot for Janie Clements Industries and the Association of Retarded Citizens, in which Ryan participates.

Carol is survived by her husband, Robert of Brownwood; a son Ryan, of Brownwood; her parents, Wes and Nell Murray of Longview; three brothers, Jud Murray of Longview, Jason Murray of Longview, and Jim Murray of Sugarland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Brown County Chapter of the ARC or to the American Cancer Society.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be left for the family at www.mem.com.
