Ruth F. (Quirl) Blythe of Brownwood, Texas, formerly of Zephyr, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at the age of 87.

Mrs. Blythe was born on Nov. 27, 1921, in Salem, Ore., to Arthur F. and Gracie I. (Smith) Quirl. She moved to Zephyr with her family at the age of 7, where she attended elementary and high school. She graduated from Daniel Baker College (now a part of Howard Payne University) in Brownwood, and was a school teacher in Priddy and Mullin in the 1940s. She met her lifelong sweetheart, Jesse Lee (“Jake”) Blythe, while he was stationed at Camp Bowie in Brownwood, and they married on June 16, 1946. Together they lived in California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah from the late 1940s until 1973, when they returned to Zephyr. Mrs. Blythe was a member of Zephyr United Methodist Church as a child and young woman, and returned to her church home in 1973, where she graced the second pew until 2006.

Mrs. Blythe’s unwavering faith sustained her through the trials in her life and was a testament to those who knew her. Her family and friends were blessed to experience her unconditional love and support. Mrs. Blythe has returned to her home in Heaven, where she joins her sweetheart Jake, their son David, and many family and loved ones who went before her to prepare her place.

Mrs. Blythe is survived by her children, Rose Ann Stanley and husband Danny of Brownwood, Grace Stewart and husband Robert (“Stew”) of Dallas, and Missy Roth and husband Bob of Fort Worth; her grandchildren, Justin King of Brownwood and son Cameron, Jennifer Alden of Salt Lake City, Melanie Knox and husband and son, Josh and Jacob of Dallas, Mathew Stanley of Houston, Aron Stanley (currently serving in Iraq) and son Devon, Robert Roth and wife and son Dannielle and Garrett of The Woodlands, Texas, Rob Stewart and wife and children, Kathryn, Grant and Courtney of Southlake, Texas, Kelly Stewart Coleman and sons Kobe and Kory of Georgetown, Texas, and Gene Stewart of Frisco, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Blaine Quirl of Zephyr; brother-in-law, Fadie Ratliff of Zephyr; brothers and sisters-in-law Bill and Velma Blythe of Brownwood and J.C. and Norma Blythe of Blythe, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 6 until 8 p.m. today, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Zephyr United Methodist Church, Pastor John Clifford officiating, with graveside services to follow at Zephyr Cemetery.
