A memorial service for Russell Reese, 77, will be held on June 14 at Desert Rock Church, 14411 LaPaz Dr., Victorville, Calif. He died May 23, 2008.
He was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to John and Della Reese. The family moved to Abilene when he was in junior high school. After graduating from Abilene High, he joined the U.S. Navy and went on to graduate with honors from Abilene Christian College with a degree from the Dental Laboratory Tech School in 1963. He wrote many manuals and taught at schools and universities around the world. He retired in May 1992 as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force.
He was married to Virginia Graves in Abilene in March 1958. They were missionaries to Japan from 1996 to 2001. After he was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1998, they returned to the U.S. and continued their mission work at Desert Rock Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Janet Montoya and Linda Mantel; three sons, John Reese III, David Reese and Joseph Reese; 13 grandchildren; and one grandchild. Local survivors include his mother-in-law, Myd Graves; brother-in-law, Wayne Graves and his wife Lina, and his sister-in-law Judy Steel; and a host of nieces and nephews.
