Funeral services for Alma Elizabeth Sledge will be at 10 a.m. Saturday Dec. 20, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm. today, at the funeral home. Heartland Funeral Home of Early is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sledge passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Alma was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Brownwood, to Leroy and Millie Allison Cunningham. Alma was married to Elbert E. Sledge Oct. 3, 1942, in Brownwood. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church for the past 65 years. Her membership is with the New Beginnings Church of God in Brownwood.
Alma lived all her life in Brownwood. She was in the food service department for Howard Payne University for a number of years.
Her loving personality touched many young adults at the university. She volunteered at the Loaves and Fishes Ministry for a number of years.
Mrs. Sledge is survived by three daughters and one son, Janice and Joe Wade of Zephyr, Teresa and Clarence Horner of Stephenville, Jo Lana and Terry Oliver of Zephyr, and Craig and Kyla Sledge of Boerne. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Alma is survived by three sisters Wanda Bell, Joann Mills, and Cynthia Eagleton all of Brownwood. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert; her parents, Leroy and Millie Cunningham; and two sons, Elbert L. Sledge and Randy Sledge.
