GOLDTHWAITE - Funeral services for Horace Brooks, 84, of Goldthwaite, a retired Mills County sheriff, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at First Baptist Church of Goldthwaite with Doug Holtzclaw officiating, assisted by Pat Glazener-Cooney. Burial will be in Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
He died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Buffalo Gap to George and Virgie Thompson Brooks. He was married to Hazel Tippen on April 24, 1947, in Goldthwaite. She died on Dec. 14, 2003. He was married to Imogene Maerz on Aug. 5, 2005, in Goldthwaite. He lived in Mills County all his life. He was a Baptist, a Mason and a member of the VFW and Lions Club. He served with the 187th Infantry in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Maerz Brooks of Goldthwaite; three children and spouses, Pat and Terry Williams, and Joe and Gayle Brooks, all of Goldthwaite, and Keith and Brenda Brooks of Iraan; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Faye and husband James Leonard of Goldthwaite; and one brother, Sid and wife Dorris Brooks of Goldthwaite.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Hazel Brooks.
