Dora Katheryn Cass, 88, of Brownwood died Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Songbird Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Colona United Methodist Church in Colona, Ill. Burial followed at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, Ill., under the direction of Schroder Mortuary of Silvis, Ill. Local arrangements were handled by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

She was born July 29, 1919, in Hugo, Okla., the daughter of Samuel and Dellah Hutchins Kirkpatrick. She married Dale Cass on Feb. 2, 1940, in Dallas. He preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2002.

Dora served as the village clerk from 1961 to 1969 and as water clerk from 1969 to 1981 during the time her husband Dale was mayor of Colena. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a Cub Scout den leader, and active in the PTA while her two boys were young. She was an active member of the Colena United Methodist Church for many years prior to moving to Brownwood to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She resided at the Vicksburg Retirement Community until May 2007 when she moved to the Songbird Lodge.

She is survived by her sons, Hilton K. Cass of Farified, Calif., and Dr. Allan Cass and his wife Betty of Brownwood; her brother, Sam Kirkpatrick and his wife Martha of Monument, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Ryan Cass of Long Beach, Calif., Emily Cass of Fairfield, Calif., Alice Cass of Round Rock, Texas, and Carrie Cass of Austin, Texas.
