COMANCHE — Graveside services for Gladyce Irene Wellnitz Durham, 89, of Comanche, will be held at 10 a.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche with Dr. Van Christian officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Lunch will follow the services at First Baptist Church in Comanche.
She died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Oak Ridge Manor in Brownwood.
She was born May 28, 1920, in Arpin, Wis., to Paul and Linda (Bruesewitz) Wellnitz. She was a registered nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II. She was married to Travis “Ted” Russell Durham of Comanche on Aug. 5, 1943, in Winchester Cathedral, Winchester, England. She helped establish the library at the First Baptist Church in Comanche and served as its librarian for many years.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Russell Len Durham and Jan Caraway Durham of Fort Worth; three grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chester and Charlotte McKinzie of Comanche and Dr. Lannes and Peggy Hope of Bryan; and several nieces and nephews.
