Maxine Hays Taylor, 87, of Brownwood, passed from this life on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Maxine was born to Brice and Pearl Hays on Nov. 9, 1920 in Owens, Texas. After living in the Owens area, her family moved to Midland in 1930 where she later graduated from Midland High School in 1938. She was married to Bill Taylor June 17, 1945, and they were happily married for 51 years. After high school, she worked for Scharbauer Cattle Co. and Texaco. She retired from Gulf Pipeline Co. January 1983, after 35 years of service as a proration clerk. She and her husband enjoyed attending the Gulf Retirees reunion group at Lake Brownwood and his 36th Division Company L reunions in Breckenridge. She was also a member of the Chevron Retirees Permian Basin chapter.
She was very devoted to her family and was affectionately known as “Bean” to her great nephews and nieces. Family gatherings were very important to her. She and Bill hosted the family holidays and Taylor family reunions for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed looking up her family’s genealogy and recording the family history. Maxine loved being at the lake house where she resided for the past 10 years. While living in Midland, she was actively involved with the Midland 4-H Horse Club as an adult leader where she aided her nieces with their horse show projects. She was also a supportive fan of all her great nieces and nephews. She attended every sporting event, graduation, and memorable milestone that she possibly could.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Taylor; parents, Brice and Pearl Hays; sisters, Bettie Thomas and Elwanda Ward; and her brother Gene Hays. She is survived by her two nieces, Bryce Anne Passmore and her husband Lynn of Brownwood, Becky Middleton and husband Mike of Midland; cousin, Paul Miller of Houston; and four great nieces and nephews, Megan Huffer, her husband Marcus, and their children Brayden and Rylee of Midland, Ryan Passmore of Silverton, Sarah Passmore of Lubbock, and Spencer Middleton of Midland.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Ellis Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Shannon Weisenfels of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
