Funeral services for Alvie D. Followwell, 86, of Brownwood, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Brownwood Evangelism Center with Pastor Kenneth Colegrove officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday evening at Netherton Funeral Home.

He passed away Tuesday evening, Oct. 28, 2008, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Alvie was born July 10, 1922, in Pickett, the son of Jim and Lucy (Blackstock) Followwell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 127 Engineers of the 11th Airborne Division, where he earned two Bronze Stars for beach head landings. Alvie was married to Beth Nix on Oct. 26, 1946, in Abilene. He had been a resident of Brownwood since 1946. He worked as Construction Foreman over Heavy Equipment for the Herman Bennett Company until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Followwell, of Brownwood; daughters, Peggy Withers and husband, David, of Lake Brownwood and Pam Yancey and husband, Mike, of Goldthwaite; brothers, Everett Followwell and wife, Ruth, of Lake Brownwood, L. B. Followwell and wife, Patsy, of Brownwood and O. D. Followell and wife, Wanda, of Brownwood; sister, Mozelle Walton of Tularosa, N.M.; grandchildren, Brad Thedford, Holly Whittenburg, Kara Gillette, Jonathon Withers, Kassandra Yancey and Kennon Yancey; great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Jayce, Hunter, Dallas and Madison; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lucy Followwell; and sister, Nina Hall.
