ELDORADO — Mildred May (Mimmie) Kent Stanford passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in Midland, Texas, at the age of 102.
Mimmie was born near Crockett, Texas, in Houston County on Sept. 21, 1907, to A.E. and Cummie Kent.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Eldorado, Texas, where she was a member for most of her life. Burial will follow in Eldorado Cemetery beside her husband of 51 years, Truett Stanford.
Mimmie moved with her family from East Texas to Eldorado, Texas about 1910 in a covered wagon. After graduating from high school in San Antonio, Texas, she was married to Truett C. Stanford of Eldorado, where they farmed and ranched for over 50 years.
All of her very large extended family have only extremely happy, joyful memories of the times spent at the ranch. Her unselfish ways, sweet spirit, and welcoming heart and arms and unwavering faith will remain with us always.
Mimmie was the fourth of nine children. Her father, A.E. Kent was claimed by the flu epidemic of 1918. Cummie was left to raise nine children, which she did with the grace of God.
Mimmie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, eight brothers and sisters, Albertine Kent Foster, Inez Kent Alsup, Tom Kent, Maud Kent Waldrep, Pauline Kent Means, E.L. “Buck” Kent, Luther “Pokie” Kent, and Lillie Bell “Pat” Kent May, and three nephews.
Mimmie is survived by four sons, Al Stanford of Midland, Texas, Truett K. Stanford of Los Banos, Calif., Jack W. Stanford of Brownwood, Texas, Joe R. Stanford of Fallbrook, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 15 nephews and nieces plus numerous other relatives and friends.
Memorials in her memory may be made to First Baptist Church, Eldorado, Texas.
