Luther Arlie Sober Sr., age 71, passed away June 12, 2008, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Services for Luther will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2008, at Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rocky Creek Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early.
Luther was born May 16, 1937. in Grainola, Okla. to Arlie and Goldie Sober. Luther was married to Rosa Lee Ivy on Aug. 2, 1958. Luther served his country in the U.S. Navy. Luther and Rosa Lee lived in Pampa, Texas, for many years before making Brownwood their home in 1983.
Luther was a long time member of the Rocky Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a retiree of Aldersgate Enrichment Center. Luther also was a coach for 30 years for Special Olympics and named State family of the year for Special Olympics in 1996. Luther was also a Board member of Brownwood Association for Retarded Citizens. Luther was well known for his Decorative Wood crafting.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years and 10 months Rosa Lee Sober of Brownwood; daughters, Rhealene Sober of Brownwood, Kathi Arrington and husband Kirby of Arlington, Texas, and Terri Rhea of Goldthwaite, Texas; a son, Butch Sober and wife Debra of Medford, Ore.; a brother, Jack Sober of Amarillo, Texas; sisters, Frances Harp of Independence, Kan., and June Hobart of Goddarad, Kan.; grandchildren, Cory and Allison Sober, Hillari Wilson, Lesli Parker and fiancé Ryan Wadkins; his loyal and beloved dog “Killer;” numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Goldie and Arlie Sober; brothers, Everett Sober and Buster Sober; an infant grandson, Brandon Ray Wilson, and granddaughter, Shayla Parker.
