William R. “Bob” Rothwell, age 81, of Brownwood, Texas, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Light and the Rev. Bill Merritt officiating. Interment will follow at Trickham Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Heartland Funeral Home.
Bob Rothwell was born April 2, 1926, in Longview, Texas, the son of the late Robert P. and Virginia Brice Rothwell. He worked as a tugboat Captain for four years and for Lone Star Steel for a number of years. Bob married Nelda Richardson in Marshall, Texas on June 12, 1986, they made their home in Brown County, and Bob was a member of the Bangs Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1943 until 1948.
Survivors include wife, Nelda Rothwell of Brownwood; son, Rocky Rothwell and wife Karen of Portland, Ore.; two step-sons, Mark Shaefer and Brent Shaefer of Ore City, Texas; sister, Dorothy Herrington of Ingram; nephews, Jim and Jeanie Herrington and son of Pasadena, and Rick and Margaret Herrington of Austin; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Jack Rucker; half-brother, James Rucker; half-sister, Deloris Banks; and stepdaughter, Terri Wiley.
