Graveside services for Dorothy Tongate, age 93, of Early will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in Rocky Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Visitation was from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tongate died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, in a local nursing facility.

Dorothy was born on May 6, 1916, in New Mexico to J. Walter and Hettie (Mitchell) Nichols. She was married to W.C. “Clint” Tongate in Brownwood on Oct. 6, 1934. He died Sept. 14, 2006. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Brown County since 1927. Dorothy was a longtime member of Early First Baptist Church.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Joe Tongate and wife Glenda of San Angelo; daughter, Bettye Tate of Brownwood; grandsons, Gregory J. Tate and wife Rachel of Springdale, Utah, and Paul Caudle of Midland; granddaughters, Holly Johnson of Blackwell and Nicole Tate of Springdale, Utah; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Olivia; sister, Carol Dean Spurlock of Early; and brother, Carol “Nick” Nichols of Early.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Walter Nichols.
