SANTA ANNA - Graveside services for John Hensley, 91, of Santa Anna will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion, with the Rev. Bobby Weathers and the Rev. Paul Stephen officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time at Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.
He died at his home Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.
He was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Milam County, to Col. Sherfield and Ethel Brady Hensley. He was a lifetime resident of Coleman County and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1934. He was married to Lucile Miller in Santa Anna in December 1946. She died in 1966. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He retired in 1977 from the National Guard as a Command Sergeant Major following 45 years of service. He was a soldier, rancher, carpenter and oilfield driller.
Survivors include his son, John S. and wife Peggy Hensley of Santa Anna; daughter, Suzanne and husband Dean Bass of Coleman; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
