Bobby Steel, 83, of Brownwood passed away Aug. 2, 2007, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
A lifetime resident of Brownwood, he was born on Sept. 29, 1923, to Oliver and Audry Steel. A rancher all of his life, he was kind and gentle to all, he loved talking to his animals and loved being outdoors. He was a very active man who was always thinking of others.
He married Nellie Ruth Petty on Dec. 15, 1945, in Brownwood, and she preceded him in death in 2003. He was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and a Mason.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Freeman of Brownwood; brother, Sam Steel and wife, Jerri, of Blanket; and a sister, Jennie Belle Fisher and husband, Mark, of Early. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ruth Steel; his parents, Oliver and Audry Steel; and one grandson, Michael Freeman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Skaggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
