Funeral services for Frances Smith, age 78, of Brownwood, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Rocky Creek Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Frances died Sunday, May 18, 2008, in Brownwood Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 9, 1930, in Massac County, Illinois, to William Henry and Dora Belle Peck. She was married to Eddie Smith in Midland. They moved to Brownwood in 1976. Frances worked in retail clothing sales for more than 30 years. While living in Midland, she worked for Career Girl and Julian Gold, and in Brownwood, she worked for for Pat’s and Gene’s.
She was a faithful member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. She taught the 3- and 4-year-old children’s Sunday School class and the third grade Awana class. She also served with the fellowship and guidance committee working with college students at Howard Payne University. She volunteered her time to Meals on Wheels and Good Samaritan Ministries.
Frances is survived by three sons, Mike Smith of Moreland, Okla., Brady Smith and wife Rhonda of Midland, Eddie Smith and wife Linda of San Diego, Calif., and a daughter, Debra Iannucci and husband John of Incline Village, Nev.; two brothers, Morgan Peck, of San Antonio, and Roy Peck of Joppa, Ill.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the youngest of 12 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Smith (Eddie Smith Motor Co.) in 1996.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1815 Coggin, Brownwood, TX 76801 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
