Herman Dudley Prater went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 15, 2007.
He was born March 17, 1921, in Cross Cut, Texas, to Walter and Nilie Jo (De Busk) Prater. June 7, 1940, he married Berta Francis Seale in Cisco, Texas. He joined the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific.
After the war, Herman drove for Greyhound Bus Lines where he received many safety awards. He retired after 38 years service.
On Dec. 10, 1990, Herman lost his beloved Berta to cancer. Sept. 18, 1992, he married Geneva Wagnon La Roque in Brownwood, Texas. Herman was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church until illness made it impossible to attend.
Herman is survived by his wife Geneva Prater; stepsons Larry La Roque and wife Linda of Lorena, Texas, and Steve La Roque and wife Jonette of Brownwood, Texas; nephews James Prater and wife Mary of Fort Worth, Texas, and Roscoe Prater and wife Allyne of Joplin, Mo.; nieces Norma Jean Wilck and husband Paul of Rockwall, Texas, and Marie Zelinski and husband of Shelby, Mich.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews, stepgrandchildren, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Nilie Jo Prater; brothers, Leonard, John Ernest and Vernon Prater; and sisters, Bonnie Triplett and Nona Beal.
Herman was loved by many and will be sorely missed but he’s found peace in his heavenly home.
