James “Shorty” Ernest Sims, age 74, of Brownwood, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Brownwood Nursing and Rehab following a courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at Wolf Valley Cemetery with President Randy Timmons of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating.

James was Born Nov. 1, 1933, in Hadley, Texas, the son of Arthur and Helen Sims. James worked at Aldersgate Industries, worked on ranches and participated in rodeos for many years. He married Leoma Helen Sutter on Dec. 18, 1994. James was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors are his wife, Leoma Helen Sims of Brownwood, Texas; and step-sons, Wayne and wife Sue of May, Texas, Earnest and wife Joy Cole of Gatesville, Texas.

James was known as “Papa James” to his seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Sims of Dublin, Texas; sisters, Katy and husband Charles Skaggs of May, Texas, Joyce and husband Bobby Marx of Baytown, Texas, Laverne of Bay City, Texas, Ina Jones of Dublin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his parents, and brother Lee Sims.

Memorials are requested to be made to the American Cancer Society.
