OVALO — Funeral services for Lovena Best, 78, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Ovalo Baptist Church with Marcy Grun officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Lovena, 78, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at her residence.

Lovena was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Breckenridge to Claude W. and Clura Ward Lawson. She was married to Alvin Roy “Ducky” Best in 1949 and lived in Abilene prior to moving to Ovalo in 1964. She worked as a secretary for the Salvation Army for five years and was assistant director for the Taylor County Welfare Department from 1982 to 1992, when she retired. She was a homemaker and a member of Ovalo Baptist Church, where she was church organist for 38 years.

Survivors include two sons, Donny Best of Blanket and Paul Best and wife Michelle of Ovalo; three daughters, Karen Dingler and husband Carl of Buffalo Gap, Brenda Saling and husband Bobby of Tuscola, and Twila Johengen of Ovalo; 10 grandchildren, Rody Best, Jason Best, Cooper Best, Angie Klug, Christi Melbourne, Nathan Saling, Justin Maxwell, Misty Hutsell, Jammy Randell and Shuntell Lancaster; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Winona Simpson and Gerene Wingard; and several other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; and a great-granddaughter, Allie Klug.
