Janet Byrd Sliger, age 69, of Brownwood passed away peacefully at the Brown-wood Regional Medical Center on Saturday, June 23, after a long and valiant battle with breast cancer. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Bangs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Janetís lifeís journey began June 26, 1937, in Brownwood as the baby girl of W. L. and Jackie Byrd. She graduated in 1955 from the Blanket High School where she lettered in basketball and served as a majorette. She was active in FHA, the pep squad, and the annual staff.

Janet married Dean Sliger on June 2, 1957, and they moved to Brownwood to work in the family business, Sligerís produce and to begin a family. Janet later worked as food supervisor and director at Woodland Heights Elementary School.

She was an avid artist and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She also liked to travel with her friends and most of all reading her Bible.

She was a devoted Christian and loved her savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of Living Word Church.

Janet met each of lifeís challenges with determination and confidence and a strong faith. Her unwavering devotion to Jesus is her gift to her family for which they are all grateful.

She is survived by her sons, James Sliger and wife Lee, Cullen Sliger and wife Kim; her sister, Glenda Stephens and husband Marshall; grandchildren, Jason King, Jesse Sliger, Kelcy Potts, Kaitlyn Sliger; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Paula Sliger and brother-in-law, T. J. Sliger; her best friends, Marie Nowell and Connie Zintgraff; and special neighbors, Patta, Cassandra and Carolyn.

Memorials are requested to be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
