Graveside services for Melissa Kay Newsom, age 40, of Lubbock, and formerly of Brownwood, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at Greenleaf Cemetery with the Rev. Joey Wilbourn officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Friday evening at Netherton Funeral Home. She passed away Wednesday morning, June 18, 2008, at the University Medical Center in Lubbock.
Melissa was born June 30, 1967, in Brownwood, where she lived throughout her childhood. She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1985. After moving to Lubbock, Melissa graduated from Texas Tech University, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in human development and family studies. Melissa was a loving person who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Survivors include her children, Tali Merriel Newsom of Lubbock and Jackson Dean Newsom of Lubbock; her mother, Mary McAnally, of Brownwood; brother, Donald Newsom, of Amarillo; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roland Newsom; stepfather, Milton McAnally; brothers, Jimmy Newsom and Larry Newsom; and grandparents, Alvin and Susi Newsom and Milton and Willie Mae Sansom.
