Graveside services for Gladys Rankin, 89, of Brownwood will be at 2 p.m. today at Locker Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rankin died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at a local nursing home.

She was born Nov. 20, 1918, in Travis County, the daughter of Coy and Mattie (Word) Patton. She had been a resident of Brownwood since 1985, and was formerly of Richland Springs. She was a homemaker and a member of Avenue D Baptist Church. She was married to R. A. Rankin on July 27, 1938, in Mason. He died July 28, 1982.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Rankin of Brownwood, Charlie Rankin of Cross Cut and Kenneth Rankin of Monahans; two daughters, Dorothy Moore of Arlington and Melva Grumbles of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by four sons, Leon Rankin, Alvis Rankin, Billie Rankin and Willie Rankin; four brothers; and two sisters.
