Graveside services with military honors for Gary Allen Stewart, 76, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Blanket Cemetery. There will also be a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. at Milton Avenue Baptist Church following the graveside services.
Gary Allen Stewart was born June 2, 1932, in Spur, Texas, and died June 29, 2008, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
A longtime contractor, he served in the Korean War, loved to fish, play guitar and sing, and visit with friends and family. While serving in the military, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the U.S. Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal Unit Commission with two O/S Bars.
He was the son of the late Jesse Neal and Mary Joy Carter Stewart.
Survivors include Debbie Douglas, longtime companion, of Brownwood, Texas; Bill J. Stewart, son, of Brownwood, Texas; Cheryl A. Hodes, daughter, of Austin, Texas; Glenna J. Ellis, daughter, of Wrangell, Alaska; grandchildren. Will J. Stewart, Jennifer D. Stewart and David A. Ellis; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
